“Happiness is a butterfly, which, when pursued, is always just beyond your grasp, but which, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you.”
– Nathaniel Hawthorne
How I Work
I work holistically with my clients, using a variety of therapeutic instruments including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), gestalt therapy, somatic experiencing, play therapy, eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and mindfulness-based techniques to help clients learn more about themselves and to overcome particularly difficult situations that they may be facing. I bring attention and awareness not only to client’s psychological and emotional issues but also to the physical, spiritual and relational areas of their life.
Each counselling session is 60 minutes in duration and is by appointment only.
Before your first session, I will spend 10-15 minutes over the phone with you to complete a brief evaluation, explain how I work and also share a little about who I am. If I am not the most appropriate psychotherapist for you to see, I can refer to you colleagues who can better help you.
In the first counselling session I will ask what you hope to gain from therapy and will complete a more detailed evaluation including current circumstances, employment situation and personal background.
Depending on your situation, we can work together over a number of sessions (up to 12 sessions), and if you are looking for long-term support we can commit to a longer therapy plan and assess your progress every 6 months.
